Shared spaces

## A place to gather. A change of atmosphere.

The kitchen, dining area and living room need to feel connected while supporting different activities. Worktops need focused light, the dining table its own accent and the lounge a softer background.

### The design response

The island, dining furniture and seating define distinct areas. Timber, pale stone textures and terracotta accents connect them. Built-in cabinetry organises storage, while pendants and local lighting highlight the places used most often.

### Everyday benefit

Cooking, conversation and relaxation each have their own setting, with lighting chosen to suit the activity.

Kitchen island, timber cabinetry and pendant lights above the dining area

The island combines a working surface with a place for a short conversation.

Light living room with large windows, a soft sofa and terracotta armchairs

Textured walls and generous seating establish the quieter part of the shared space.

Automation in use

### Dinner

Lighting groups are combined into Cooking, Dinner and Relax scenes. Dimming adjusts brightness, and residents select the scene with a wall control. Each group can also be controlled individually.

Personal comfort

## Each room. Its own rhythm.

A bedroom and a study call for different atmospheres. The design challenge is to give each its own character while keeping the house visually coherent.

### The design response

Pale surfaces and a soft headboard in the bedroom are complemented by local lighting. Darker cabinetry, a desk and open shelves give the study a separate setting for concentration. Storage forms part of each room’s composition.

### Everyday benefit

Work has a dedicated place outside the bedroom. Comfort settings can follow the way each zone is used.

Bedroom with terracotta bedding, a circular illuminated wall feature and curtains

Soft textures and bedside light support a private, restful atmosphere.

Home study with a desk, dark cabinetry and pendant lighting

A separate study keeps the workspace outside the bedroom.

Automation in use

### Morning

Heating and underfloor heating follow individual zone temperatures and schedules that account for thermal inertia. Motorised curtains and shading respond to the time of day and light sensor readings. Manual commands take priority over schedules.

Night lighting

## A clear route after dark.

Moving between rooms is part of everyday life in a three-storey home. At night, the route should be visible without switching on bright general lighting throughout the space.

### The design response

The stairs and entrance continue the house’s material palette. Light defines surfaces and makes the space easier to read. Route lighting is separate from general lighting and follows its own scene.

### Everyday benefit

A short night-time journey can use gentle illumination, with full brightness available when needed.

Stairs with timber details and planting beneath the flight

The staircase materials connect the floors into a coherent interior.

Entrance hall with glazed partitions, a mirror and integrated storage

The entrance brings storage, a seat and a clear passage together.

Automation in use

### Night

Sensors activate route lighting according to the time of day and ambient light. Switch-off delays follow movement through the house, while presence logic accounts for quiet reading and rest.

Peace of mind

## Fewer checks before leaving.

Leaving a large house can mean checking lights, access points and building systems. Shared control logic simplifies these actions and clearly identifies anything needing attention.

### The design response

The Away scene coordinates the home: selected lights switch off, heating follows an agreed setting and access states are checked. Arming the alarm requires an explicit user command and confirmation from the security system.

### Everyday benefit

The user receives a clear view of the home’s state. Alarms and faults are distinguished from routine information.

The house perimeter: fencing, planting and evening lighting along the boundary.

Evening view of the entrance gate and exterior lighting

Gate control is complemented by position monitoring.

Automation in use

### Away

Access control, the alarm and notifications work together. In risk areas, leak sensors trigger shut-off of the relevant water supply and notify residents. Access states and alarm notifications identify events that need attention.

Outdoor living

## The evening continues on the terrace.

The grounds should remain comfortable after sunset. Lighting supports circulation and relaxation, while irrigation needs to respond to conditions on the site.

### The design response

The terrace, pool area and planting create different places to spend time. Evening lighting accents along paths and vertical surfaces continue the atmosphere of the house.

### Everyday benefit

Outdoor spaces can support a walk to the entrance, time by the pool or an evening on the terrace.

Evening view of the pool, terrace and landscaped garden

The pool and terrace extend the living space beyond the house.

Covered terrace seating area with upholstered chairs, a table and a fireplace

The covered terrace offers a place to dine and relax, with local wall lighting.

Automation in use

### Evening outdoors

Exterior lighting is divided into functional groups controlled by dusk, schedules or presence. Zoned irrigation responds to soil moisture or rainfall. Gate control includes position monitoring and safety interlocks.

The result

## A coherent interior. Intuitive control.

The completed 398 m² interior combines shared spaces, private rooms and bespoke furniture. Lighting, heating, curtains and protection systems work through everyday scenes. The terrace and landscaped grounds extend the living space, while automation simplifies control of the home.
